All of the novels listed above are in the running for Best Novel of the Year.
Likewise, any of the above finalists that meet the eligibility requirements for Best Novel by a New Author can be chosen for that award. This year, the eligible books are:
- Daughter of Helaman by Misty Moncur
- Gifted by Karey White
- No Angel by Theresa Sneed
- Shifting by Bethany Wiggins
- The List by Melanie Jacobson
- With a Name Like Love by Tess Hilmo
We will also be asking Academy voters to certify that they have read each of the books in the categories they are voting in. If, for example, a voters wants to vote for Best Romance, then the ballot will contain a check box asking the voter to certify that they’ve read all five novels in that category.
To vote for Best Novel of the Year, you must have read all of the finalists in all categories–all thirty five novels.
The Academy has until April 23rd to read the finalists in whichever categories they plan to vote in. On information on how to join the Academy, click HERE.

Thank you for sending this! How very wonderful! But I have a question. I could not find a date recorded anywhere that specified how much time we (or our brave friends) have to read 35 books! Is there a cut off date? Thank you!
Excellent question, Marilyn. For anyone else wondering, ballots will be due from the voting academy on April 23rd. Other important date are listed on the home page in the bottom left-hand corner.
And, as mentioned on this page, if someone would like to join the voting academy and aren’t sure if they are eligible, more information can be found at http://whitneyawards.com/wordpress/rules/ – scroll down to Section 5.
Great list!
Concerning the Best by a Debut Author, is Bethany Wiggins not eligible? I thought Shifting was her first book.
Thanks!
Shifting is actually Bethany’s fifth book. She’s a prolific girl

Is voting for best new author separate or just a compilation of votes from the other categories. Or, in other words, can one read all the new-author books and vote in that category without reading all the books?
You only need to read all the finalists in whatever category you want to vote in, so, yes, you could read the new authors and vote in that category if that was all you wanted to do.
Thank you for the list! Although I am not a member of the academy, I always take on the challenge of reading all of the Whitney Awards. It is so much fun to read excellent books and find out who the winners are. I have my own book blog where I do basic reviews.
